To practice Land Surveying in Newfoundland and Labrador you must be a licensed member of the Association and hold a Certificate of Authorization issued for the calendar year. To apply as a Direct Entry Candidate and begin the articling process you:

• -have obtained a Certificate of Completion from the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyor (CBEPS),
• -have located a mentor (Newfoundland Land Surveyor who has possessed a certificate of Authorization for two years), who has agreed to be your mentor for the duration of the assigned article period and,
• -are not eligible for labour mobility.

New Students Applicants starting 2025

Please review the NEW Student Manual - 2025, and contact the ANLS (st@anls.ca) to make application. If you have met the above requirements however cannot locate a Mentor to article under please contact the ANLS

Once you application has been submitted to the Registrar, reviewed by the Board of Examiners and Approved by the Council of Management, a terms of articles will be set which outlines lie licensing requirements and is a contract between you, your mentor and the Association of Newfoundland Land Surveyors. You should refer to your terms of article and the New Students Applicants starting 2025 during the course of your articling period:

Existing Students (Terms of Articles Set by ANLS prior to 2025)

If you are an existing student that received their Terms of Articles from the ANLS prior to 2025, please continue to use the previous student manual, and follow directions as supplied by the ANLS Board of Examiners. The student manual prior to 2025 is located here: Student Manual July 2013

Current Canadian Licence Holder - Practicing Land Surveying in another Canadian Jurisdiction can make application to the ANLS for Labour Mobility. Please review the Labour Mobility Handbook for additional information and the application form.

Early communication is recommended to identify and reduce barriers to Labour Mobility Candidates - reach out to st@anls.ca

International license holder practicing land surveying in another country or jurisdiction outside of Canada, or foreign trained professionals wishing to become licensed in Newfoundland and Labrador must first have their credentials assessed by the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyor (CBEPS) and obtain a certificate of completion. Most Land Surveying Associations in Canada recognise CBEPS certificate of completion. While this is the first step, we also encourage applicants to reach out and identify themselves to the ANLS by contacting the registrar (st@anls.ca) to help navigate the accreditation process

Once a certificate of completion has been obtained, candidates may make application to the ANLS and follow the Labour Mobility Handbook
